Beyond Morphogenesis Enhancing synthetic trees through death, decay and the Weasel Test

چکیده
Artificial Life and Computer Graphics merge prominently in the production of virtual trees. This paper highlights several issues seldom raised by procedurally generated, synthetic landscape imagery that result in a perceived lack of authenticity or drama. Some of the concerns discussed include a need for models of decay and an understanding of the tree’s role in the environment and within human culture. These issues fall beyond current simulations, yet it is suggested that simple ad hoc techniques might be employed to overcome such gaps in current research. The intention here is to suggest ways to enhance the realism and drama of procedural landscapes. The paper also offers the subjective Weasel Test as a means to gauge the success of our models of natural phenomena. 1.0 Introduction and motivation

Relationship between Dead Trees with Soil Physico-chemical Properties and Earthworm in Mixed Broad-leaved Forest Stand (Case study: Sarcheshmeh Forest, Chaloos)
Dead trees protection, has a key role in structural and biogeochemical processes in forest ecosystems. Some aspects of dead tree dynamics have been carefully studied, but the kind and decay degree of dead trees and forest soil properties have not received enough attention. The aim of this research was to study the effect of a kind and decay degree of dead trees on soil mineral properties in the...
متن کاملThe Influence of Geomorphological Characteristics of Forest Sites on the Decay Dynamics of Dead Trees in Asalem Forests, Western Hyrcanian Region
Knowledge of the decay trend of dead trees and site factors affecting their functions, plays an important role in the development of conservation management plans in forestry projects. This research was conducted in Asalem beech forests in northern Iran to assess the impact of physiographic features of the site on the process of dead trees decay. A total of 90 sample cuts of dead beech stumps w...
متن کاملAnnual changes of oak mortality in different crown-dimensions in the forests of Kurdistan province (Case study: Baneh County)
Oak mortality is one of the most important management problems in the Zagros forests and the first signs of oak mortality appear in the canopy of trees. The aim of this study was to investigate the trend of oak mortality in trees with different crown-dimensions in the forests of Baneh County (northwest of Kurdistan province). For this study, four sites in the northern slopes (Saraki and Mirhesa...
متن کاملPeptide based polyclonal antibody production against bovine rotavirus non structure protein4 (NSP4)
The rotavirus nonstructural protein 4 (NSP4), is a multi functional protein that play key role in both viral morphogenesis and cytopathic effect associated with cell death. However, the complete biological effect of NSP4 remains to be clarified. Since to obtain further knowledge about this protein there is a need for recognizing antibody and there is no commercial antibody against this protein,...
متن کاملA library of mammalian effector modules for synthetic morphology
BACKGROUND In mammalian development, the formation of most tissues is achieved by a relatively small repertoire of basic morphogenetic events (e.g. cell adhesion, locomotion, apoptosis, etc.), permutated in various sequences to form different tissues. Together with cell differentiation, these mechanisms allow populations of cells to organize themselves into defined geometries and structures, as...
